McLUCAS HARRIET DEWEY McLUCAS

On May 5, 2008 Harriet died peacefully at her home at The Fairfax, Fort Belvoir, VA, at the age of 85.

She was passionate in her support of social and environmental causes, traveled the world, and served as a wonderful model of living life with grace. Her large family and many, many friends will miss her deeply.

She is survived by five children from her marriage to Frederick H. Black, Jr., four step-children and a step-grandchild from her marriage to John McLucas, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Fairfax on Monday, May 12 at 3 p.m., located at 9140 Belvoir Woods Pkwy, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060 (703-799-1200).

Gifts in honor of Harriet may be made to Prospera Initiatives, a local nonprofit that she helped to launch that runs after-school programs in literacy and leadership to enable Latino youth reach their full potential: 44216 Evergreen Lane, Suite 134, Annandale, VA 22003. www.prosperaweb.org .

Ed Martin - 5/19/2008 Yesterday's Washington Post carried an obituary on John McLucas' widow, Harriet, who passed away on May 5. There was no information on any funeral arrangements. For those of us who knew her, we can attest to the fact that she was a great lady.
