RSVP for Annual Meeting by October 14
First Wednesday in December
Web Site Notes
Tuesday, October 18, 2005, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m
Brickskeller Restaurant
1523 22nd Street NW (between P & Q Streets)
Washington, DC 20037

Over 100 members have submitted votes for three Directos to serve for the next three years. Most of you managed to navigate the online ballot on the web site. Dick Arndt will pick up the paper ballots in time for the meeting. There is still time for you to submit your vote using the web site. Just sign in and the link to the ballot should appear in the left navigation menu choices. If you have any problem with this, read the article from the webmaster further down the page.
Now, it's time for you to let us know if you plan to join us. It's not often you get an offer for FREE FOOD with no strings attached. Jack Hannon made all the arrangements and Dick Arndt will write the check for the food. (You pay for your drinks.) We just need to know how much food to order. The real purpose of the meeting is social. A relaxed evening in a world-famous location. Beer is optional; only the social part of the evening is required.
There are directions to the Brickskeller from the Dupont Circle Metro later in the article as well as location of some parking facilities gleaned from the internet as well as a couple of other links.
The business meeting portion of the evening will be very short. Feel free to ask questions until you hear some grumbling. After the business meeting is over, you can continue the discussion with anyone who will listen.
There was an article in the Post last week about Lockheed Martin benefits. New employees will not receive the same benefits as some current retirees are getting - only 401K contributions. There were no announced plans to change existing retiree benefits.
But, of course, the Medicare Part D rollout is heading out. What that may mean is not yet clear. Help us share information on this topic.

This pub is a local favorite, offering beers from around the world.
Located below ground, the cave-like pub has brick walls and arched
doorways. The staff is friendly and helpful, and can recommend a brew
to suit your tastes. You can enjoy the beer you drank on your
Caribbean honeymoon, or sample the brew from a country you always
dreamed of visiting.

Well folks, it's that time of the year again. I'm talking about the
annual 1st Wenesday in December COMSAT Labs "oldtimers" get-to-gether
at Roy's Place
2 E Diamond Ave
Gaithersburg, MD
6:30ish
301-948-5548.
It is a completely unofficial and informal event. Traditionally it's been an event attended by members and spouses of the Labs but that has expanded over the years, so that all are welcome. An RSVP is not necessary, but it would be nice to get some type of head count. So if you can send a short email to ronaldj@erols.com, it would be appreciated.
Make the subject("1st Wednesday in December,2005") prominent so that
it won't be confused with junk mail.
Pass the word around. Hope to see you there.

I hope you find the web site easy to navigate and to sign in. I'm both lazy and forgetful, so the web site has some features to make it easy for all of us to get to places in the web site. The secret is to have a "cookie" from the web site saved on your computer. There's nothing extra that you need to do beyond entering the right information into the sign in form the first time. The web site will then send the "cookie" to your computer. This is a very small file saved someplace in your computer. You probably already have them from other web sites saved on your computer. That is the normal operation for most computers. Once this is in place, you should find that future sign ins are quick and easy. It does work - I use only two mouse clicks to sign in.
So if you are having a problem, I'd like to help. Just send me a short email and I'll do whatever is needed to get things set up for you. A few of you have probably encountered the error page. Errors to a web site are usually caused by faulty code or unexpected data. Nearly all the faulty code is fixed before you ever see the page. The problem is the unexpected data. If you ever encounter one of the error pages, rest assured that it will also be copied into a log file.
So what causes the unexpected data? One reason is that you didn't enter the information I expected when I designed the page. I don't know why this happens because the directions are perfectly clear to me. ;) But perhaps you still can't figure out what to enter. That's when you should send me an email. Until I know what is unclear or unknown, I can't do much. So please drop me an email. It may take a day to get back to you, but I do try to answer every question.
Just send the email to webmaster@comara.org
In the next newsletter, I'll discuss how your PIN (that you can't change) and a password (that is totally under your control) work together to make access to the web site easy from any computer. Can't wait for the next newsletter? Write now and ask me. Test my offer for help.
